The Chief Executive has appointed Financial Secretary Paul Chan as Chairperson of the Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC), and Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung as an official member of the committee.
Taking effect today, the appointments are made to fill the vacancies arising from the State Council’s removal of John Lee from the Chief Secretary post on April 7 and Caspar Tsui from the Secretary for Home Affairs post on February 24.
They also ensure that the CERC could continue to perform its statutory functions in accordance with the law.
The Chief Executive made the appointments pursuant to section 9A of the Chief Executive Election Ordinance.
The appointment notice has been published in the gazette today and reported to the Central People’s Government for the record.
