Chief Executive John Lee today met visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies of Singapore Heng Swee Keat.

Mr Lee said he was pleased to see Mr Heng in Hong Kong after they previously met in July last year, when Mr Lee visited Singapore.

He said Singapore has consistently been Hong Kong’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, with bilateral trade in goods between the two places in 2023 amounting to $394.7 billion.

He added that Hong Kong will continue to make every effort to strengthen multifaceted co-operation with Singapore, in particular in relation to the green and digital sectors, as well as in other emerging industries.

Mr Lee also thanked Singapore for its ongoing support for Hong Kong’s early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, which he said will pave the way for greater contributions to regional co-operation and create added impetus for growth in Hong Kong.

The Chief Executive highlighted the upgrading of China-Singapore relations to an “All Round High Quality Future Oriented Partnership” last year, as well as the distinct advantages Hong Kong enjoys from having the strong support of the motherland while also being closely connected to the world under “one country, two systems”.

He said Hong Kong will give full play to its role as a “super connector” and “super value-adder”, thereby contributing to the promotion of mutually beneficial economic growth for China and Singapore.
