The Innovation & Technology Commission today co-staged the Hong Kong I&T Strives Ahead forum in partnership with the Science & Technology Parks Corporation and the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre.
Held at the Science Park, the forum marked the anniversary of President Xi Jinping's visit to the location, and also formed part of a series of events marking the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Wang Weiming, Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific & Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, was a guest.
Speaking at the forum, Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong said the 14th Five-Year Plan outlines full national support for developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology (I&T) centre.
Prof Sun added that President Xi's visit to the Science Park last year demonstrated the importance placed on Hong Kong’s I&T development by the central government, and its aspirations for the sector.
Science & Technology Parks Corporation Chairman Sunny Chai said the park has built a research and development community of about 20,000 people, with companies raising funds of approximately $780 million this year.
More than 430 start-ups from 21 economies have also completed incubation programmes in 2023, he added.
