Chief Executive John Lee today met CPC Central Committee Publicity Department Vice Minister and China Media Group (CMG) President & Editor-in-Chief Shen Haixiong to exchange views on deepening co-operation between Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and CMG.

At Government House, the Chief Executive welcomed Mr Shen’s visit to Hong Kong with his delegation and thanked CMG for its continuous support to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s work.

Mr Lee said he was pleased to learn that under CMG’s support, the China Global Television Network (CGTN) English Channel will be launched on the new RTHK 35 Channel and RTHK’s online platform as a way to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the Hong Kong SAR’s establishment.

Noting that CMG has gifted a series of exquisite programmes to RTHK, Mr Lee thanked the group for its generous act which allows Hong Kong audiences to enjoy more excellent programmes from the Mainland.

RTHK and CMG will also co-produce a number of radio programmes to forge the bonds between Hong Kong and the motherland, he added.

Furthermore, the launch of the CGTN Documentary & Radio The Greater Bay channel in Hong Kong through RTHK from July 1 last year has hugely enhanced Hong Kong people’s understanding of the country’s development and livelihood, which is remarkably effective in engendering their sense of citizenship and the national identity, Mr Lee pointed out.

As the Hong Kong SAR Government maintains co-operation with CMG, Mr Lee stressed that he is confident that RTHK can tell the good stories of the country and Hong Kong, thereby deepening citizens’ understanding of the country and its development, and nurturing their affection for the motherland.

Also present at today’s meeting were Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau and Director of Broadcasting Eddie Cheung.
