The Government is organising the upcoming Belt & Road Summit to be held in September with a special Middle East Forum arranged to promote new opportunities and collaborations, as this year marks the Belt & Road Initiative’s 10th anniversary.
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau made the remarks this afternoon at a cocktail reception he hosted for representatives from local and foreign chambers of commerce.
Mr Yau took the opportunity to review the current-term Government’s work in promoting trade and economic developments and exchange views with the commerce representatives on the work focus in the coming year.
Addressing the reception, he said it has been the Commerce & Economic Development Bureau's focus and priority in the past year to create stronger impetus for Hong Kong's economic growth.
The bureau worked towards this goal through helping enterprises weather the storm arising from the epidemic and expanding the room for businesses to grow further.
Looking forward, a new $1.4 billion incentive scheme will be launched on July 1 to attract recurrent exhibitions in Hong Kong. It is expected to support over 200 exhibitions in the coming three years.
As this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Mainland & Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, Mr Yau called on the chambers and business associations to support and join a series of celebration activities.
