Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung will depart for Portugal tomorrow, along with a delegation from the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, to attend the 2024 General Assembly of the Association of the National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
Mr Yeung will take the opportunity to pursue a bid to host the 2026 ANOC General Assembly in Hong Kong.
Comprising 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), ANOC is responsible for protecting and advancing their interests, and supporting their mission of promoting the Olympic Values worldwide. The General Assembly is its supreme governing body.
During his stay in Portugal, Mr Yeung will meet NOC representatives from different countries and regions. He will also exchange views with local government officials and representatives of sports organisations to explore opportunities for co-operation, and will seek to strengthen Hong Kong’s participation in international collaboration.
Mr Yeung will fly back to Hong Kong in the early hours of November 1. During his absence, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Raistlin Lau will be Acting Secretary.
