HK TO HOST 210 MEGA EVENTS IN '24

More than 100 mega events will be held in Hong Kong in the second half of 2024, which will bring the total number of mega events in the city to at least 210 this year.

Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong made the statement at a press conference today, noting that such large-scale events cover various areas including cultural, arts and creative events, sports, conventions and exhibitions, as well as festivals, galas and carnivals.

The Government estimated that the events will attract about 1.7 million visitors. Plus, their spending in Hong Kong is estimated to be approximately $7.2 billion, leading to an economic gain of about $4.3 billion.

Mr Wong emphasised that the mega events reflect Hong Kong's status as an international city.

“One of the values of these events is that they attract people to come to Hong Kong, so that they can see with their own eyes what has been happening in Hong Kong - how vibrant we are, how proactive we are, how friendly our people are, and how safe our streets are.

“The mega events are not just for visitors. The mega events are there for our own people, for Hong Kong people as well.”
