The Government said today that during the Mainland’s Chinese New Year Golden Week, which ended yesterday, the numbers of Mainland visitors and total inbound visitors coming to Hong Kong exceeded the figures for the same period in 2018.

During the eight-day Golden Week, the Immigration Department preliminarily recorded a total of around 1.436 million inbound visits to Hong Kong, with around 1.255 million Mainland visitors coming to the city through sea, land and air control points.

The daily average number of Mainland visitors was around 157,000, exceeding the figures for the Labour Day Holiday and National Day Golden Week in 2023 by 25.3% and 14.9% respectively. The number of daily Mainland visitor arrivals also exceeded the daily average for the same period in 2018.

Arrivals of Mainland visitors peaked on February 12, when around 186,000 visitors arrived in Hong Kong. Express Rail Link West Kowloon received the highest daily average number of Mainland visitors, followed by Lo Wu.

According to information from the Travel Industry Authority, around 1,980 Mainland inbound tour groups visited Hong Kong during the eight-day Golden Week.

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung thanked various government departments and tourism-related organisations for their efforts in providing visitors with good travel experiences.

Mr Yeung said that there had been a festive ambience in the city during the Golden Week and that incomes in the catering and retail industries had risen.

He added that major events organised during the holiday period, including the night parade, the fireworks display, horse races, and the Chinese New Year Cup football event, had proved popular and added to the city’s vibrancy.
