The Government today estimated that Hong Kong attracted 750,000 visitors during the Lunar New Year holidays from February 10 to 13.

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung said the preliminary figure reached the level in the same period in 2018 and matched earlier estimates.

“The night parade on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the fireworks display on the second day, the horse race on the third day and the soccer match on the fourth day yesterday were all well received and further boosted the festive vibes,” he added.

Of the 750,000 visitors, 650,000 were from the Mainland, higher than that in the same period in 2018 when 640,000 Mainland visitors came to Hong Kong.

A total of around 1,200 Mainland inbound tour groups involving 40,500 visitors came to the city during the four days. Both figures exceeded those during the same periods of the Mainland’s Chinese New Year Golden Weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the trade, the overall hotel occupancy rate reached 90%.

The Government emphasised that various government departments, relevant organisations and the trade will continue to attract and receive visitors, and create wonderful travel experiences for them, in the remaining few days of the Mainland’s Chinese New Year Golden Week.
