The Elderly IT Stars Recognition Scheme awards presentation ceremony was broadcast online today, commending seniors for proactively using digital technologies to bring a positive impact to the community.

In congratulating the 13 "Elderly IT Stars", Secretary for Innovation & Technology Alfred Sit said he hopes the scheme can enable the public to gain a better understanding of the abilities of seniors in using digital technologies and facilitate wider use of the technologies among them.

As the scheme is organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Government Chief Information Officer Victor Lam had earlier visited the 13 awardees and presented the awards to them individually.

Some of the awardees have used digital technologies to stay connected with their families during the epidemic, while some became digital volunteers to further contribute to the community.

All of them were participants of either the OGCIO's ICT Outreach Programme for the Elderly (2018-2020) or the Enriched ICT Training Programme for the Elderly (2019-2021).

During the two-year service period, the Outreach Programme organised about 30,000 outreach activities for over 7,500 elderly citizens, while the Training Programme delivered more than 100 free advanced digital training courses to about 3,300 seniors.
