Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau today visited several locations to view the logistics arrangements for anti-epidemic medical supplies arriving from the Mainland.

Mr Yau first called on a workshop commissioned by the Government for packing anti-epidemic kits, then inspected the anti-epidemic kit distribution centre in the Independent Commission Against Corruption headquarters.

After packing, the kits will be sent from the distribution centre to tens of thousands of COVID-19 patients and their close contacts undergoing home isolation or quarantine, the Government explained.

In addition, Mr Yau viewed a stationary sewage sampling site in Kennedy Town to learn about frontline workers’ anti-epidemic work and the protective equipment needed.

He had earlier visited the Convention & Exhibition Centre and Shaw Studios. In operation since early March as temporary storage areas and logistics centres, the two locations were lent by two local enterprises to the Government for free, greatly strengthening the storage capacity and logistics arrangements for anti-epidemic medical supplies delivered to Hong Kong.

Separately, the bureau said various kinds of medical supplies are arriving in Hong Kong as its task force is working closely with its Mainland counterparts.

The task force has so far secured over 100 million rapid antigen test kits, 180 million masks, 16 million other protective items and 1.5 million pulse oximeters.

Most of the 600,000 boxes of anti-epidemic proprietary Chinese medicines donated by the central government have been given out to residents subject to restriction-testing declarations, patients at isolation facilities and citizens receiving treatment at Chinese medicine clinics.

Medicines containing paracetamol for treating pain and fever are also arriving in Hong Kong progressively.

Most of them will be allocated to Hospital Authority patients, while some will be distributed through anti-epidemic kits to COVID-19 patients under home quarantine, the bureau added.
